Owl's Nest

Mar 7 - Static Friction

There have been many occasions where, out of seemingly nowhere, I muster up an unusual amount of energy. For whatever reason, my body has decided that today's the day. My morning coffee hits harder, my mind is clearer, and any mental blocks have been swept off my desk. There's nothing in the way of me getting done what needs to get done. It's a moment where I usual tell myself something like, "finally, this is day that I start being productive and I don't stop". And, every time, this never lasts. In an effort maintain constant levels of productivity, I inevitably end up burning out mentally after a day or so. Leaving myself in a worse state than before the jolt of energy. During this latest iteration of energy, I made sure to stop and evaluate the situation. My thoughts eventually landed on a concept I remembered from physics classes years ago: static vs. kinetic friction. Simply put, it usually takes more force to start moving an object than it takes to keep it moving. I figured that this may be a good lens to view my situation: I've got all this energy to get me started, but a slower and steadier pace is what's gonna keep me going.
